As the CBS Network News Medical Correspondent, Dr. Jennifer Ashton reports on a broad range of medical topics for CBS News' THE EARLY SHOW and contributes to the division's other broadcasts and platforms.
Dr. Ashton recently authored The Body Scoop for Girls - A Straight-Talk Guide to a Healthy, Beautiful You, a comprehensive map to womanhood for today's generation of tween and teen girls and their mothers, published by Avery Books.
A frequently contributing expert on the Dr. Oz show, television viewers were first introduced to Dr. Ashton in January 2006, when she was featured on The Learning Channel's A Baby Story, performing a drug-free delivery of one of her patients.
From March 2006 to 2009, Dr. Ashton served as Fox News Channel's first female medical contributor in addition to appearing on the nationally syndicated Morning Show with Mike and Juliet. She has also been a featured expert guest on Oprah & Friends XM radio with Dr. Oz, and has been regularly featured on Fox Radio Live in national markets.
At Hygeia Gynecology, her private clinical practice in Englewood, New Jersey, Dr. Ashton has emphasized a return to old-school medicine with a new-age approach. As an Ob-Gyn, she enjoys the daily contact with women of all ages at various critical points in their lives. "I can deliver a baby, treat an adolescent with painful periods, a 50 year-old with hot flashes and diagnose cancer all in the same day. This field encompasses endocrinology, psychiatry, surgery, oncology and infectious diseases all wrapped up in one specialty."
Many of her adult patients are the mothers of her teenage patients, who embrace Dr. Ashton's relatable manner and welcome her up-to-date medical knowledge and her un-hurried approach to healthcare.
Dr. Ashton is a Board-Certified Ob-Gyn, who specializes in Adolescent Gynecology. Born in California and raised in Tenafly, New Jersey, she comes from a family of six other physicians and one nurse. She attended Columbia College of Columbia University before obtaining her medical degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons. She was the single recipient of the prestigious Bartlestone Prize in Pharmacology from Columbia medical school.
Dr. Ashton served as Chief Resident in Ob-Gyn at St.Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, where she was awarded Chief Resident of the Year upon completing her post-graduate training.
Dr. Ashton resides in New Jersey with her physician husband, Dr. Robert Ashton, and their two children.
