Women of Achievement

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey will honor several local women at the 34th Annual Women of Achievement event on March 30, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at The Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park.

The Women of Achievement awards gala honors individuals from local communities who have made outstanding contributions in their careers or personal lives, serve as positive role models, and exemplify the values of Girl Scouting.

The annual gala features an extended cocktail reception, 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Guests from area corporations and the community-at-large are welcome to help honor these women by attending the event, placing an ad in the tribute journal, or volunteering as an event committee member

Proceeds from Women of Achievement provide financial assistance to girls in need, especially within GSNNJ’s urban areas, who without help would not receive the benefits of Girl Scouting.

Michele Powers

Michele Powers is News 12 New Jersey's Weekend Meteorologist. Michele was born and raised here in NJ and loves forecasting for all her family and friends. She has always been fascinated by the weather and that's one of the reasons why she decided to pursue meteorology as a career. She credits her love of both meteorology and astronomy to her mom. As a young child she wanted to be an astronaut and fly the Space Shuttle. Growing up watching a cable station called The Weather Channel also had something to do with her interest, too.

She started as a freelance meteorologist for News 12 back in 2002 and officially became part of the News 12 NJ Weather Team in 2005. Michele earned her NWA Seal of Approval in 2009.
