Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey hosted more than 3,400 Girl Scouts, volunteers, dignitaries, members of the press and staff in seven locations for the 100th Anniversary Candlelight Ceremonies on March 12, 2012. The event celebrated the past 100 years, while looking ahead to Girl Scouting's future.
Troops and Girl Scouts were asked to prepare a favorite moment to display at the event. Special displays showcased some of our historical items, including uniforms, books and newspaper articles. The 100th Anniversary was commemorated with a showing of the 1918 Golden Eaglet silent film, which was shown in theatres after World War I to help promote Girl Scouting, and of course, a candlelighting ceremony in which all participants illuminated green electronic candles.
