2020 Camp Updates

camp canoe 530x

We love Girl Scout Summer Day Camp and we know that you do, too, so it is with a heavy heart that we must announce that we are canceling all in-person Summer Day Camp for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The safety and well-being of our campers, their families, and our staff are our priorities. Although we always adhere to all health guidelines set by the American Camp Association and state and local health departments, there are too many unknowns surrounding COVID-19 to consider opening camp safely this summer.

Options regarding your camp deposit, virtual summer camp programming, and refunds can be found below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is summer camp going to happen this year?

The safety and well-being of our campers, their families, and our staff are our priorities. Although we always adhere to all health guidelines set by the American Camp Association and state and local health departments, there are too many unknowns surrounding COVID-19 to consider opening camp safely this summer, and so we are canceling all in-person Summer Day Camp for 2020.

I was registered and paid for a camp session(s). What do I do now?

If you have a camper enrolled for summer 2020, here are options for you to consider.

  1. Participate in our virtual summer program, Camp Connection. Girls will interact with camp counselors virtually, enjoy team-building activities, games, arts & crafts, story time, and yoga. Girls will earn badges and participate in activities based on the theme of the week, including Art in the Outdoors, Healthy Living, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.) Sessions will be offered in 2-hour blocks and will run twice daily at the cost of $80 per week. Please note that the morning session will be repeated in the afternoon.
  2. Utilize your camp deposit for your 2020-2021 Girl Scout membership renewal (can be used for both girl and adult memberships). Any remaining funds will be returned to you or you can choose to donate them as indicated in number 4 below.
  3. Use your camp deposit to hold your girl's spot for summer 2021.
  4. Donate a portion of or the entire camp fees paid to support GSNNJ during these challenging times. All donations are fully tax-deductible.
  5. Receive a full refund.

Once you have decided on an option or if you have additional questions, contact our Customer Care staff with your decision at customercare@gsnnj.org and we will make the appropriate arrangements.

Note: Those girls already registered for Day Camp 2020 are eligible for priority registration to Camp Connection until June 1, 2020, after which time registration will be open to anyone who would like to participate. All other decisions with regard to use of payments and deposits should be made as soon as possible.

Any girl who earned a week of camp through the Fall Product and/or Cookie Program will be able to use her Goal Getter reward for the summer of 2021.

My Girl Scout earned Goal Getter credit toward her camp session through the Cookie Program. What are my options?

Goal Getters will be able to use their rewards toward Summer Day Camp in 2021.

When do I need to make my decision regarding what to do with my deposits or payments?

Those girls already registered for Day Camp 2020 are eligible for priority registration to Camp Connection until June 1, 2020, after which time registration will be open to anyone who would like to participate. All other decisions with regard to use of payments and deposits should be made as soon as possible.

Will GSNNJ offer additional ways to engage my Girl Scout this summer?

Although we cannot offer an in-person camp experience, we are offering fun and safe alternatives to engage girls this summer.

What is the financial impact of this decision on the council?

Like many individuals, organizations, and businesses, Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is feeling a significant financial impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. While our council entered the COVID-19 crisis financially stable and has used its resources wisely, we still have considerable expenses to operate and maintain our facilities, programs, staff and services.

Your gift to Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey can help us fill this gap. To make a gift to Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey please visit www.gsnnj.org/donate.
