Be a NASA engineer for the day during this fun challenge. Your team has just received a failure message from a space ship. The crew onboard has limited resources, and it is up to you to develop and build a prototype ship that will get the astronauts home safely.

App Development with JavaScript

Discover how an app might help you build a healthy habit when you explore the science of app development. Collect and visualize personal data to design a prototype for an app that will help you build a healthy habit. Learn about data collection and visualization, create a personal data collection plan, learn how to correlate data, and then develop a prototype for a habit tracking app. You'll write an array (collection of codes) to store your personal data, too, and earn your App Development Badge.

Apple Cider Making

Join us to make fresh apple cider using an old-fashioned screw press as you explore the use of simple machines and learn about the history of cider making from colonial times to the present.

Archery at Jockey Hollow & Lake Rickabear Camps

Archery

With a little practice and good hand-eye coordination, you’ll be hitting bullseyes in no time. During this two-hour session, you’ll learn all about archery—the equipment, safety, and shooting on an archery range. Choose between our two camps for your preferred location: at Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham or Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon.

  • Archery sessions are available from mid-April through mid-November.
  • Sessions must be reserved at least 30 days prior to desired date.
    Adults can register to participate, too.

Baking with S.T.E.A.M.

Put on your chef’s hat and apron and get ready to combine a little S.T.E.A.M (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) with your baking skills to make cakes, pies, cookies, and bread. Join our professional baker in a restaurant kitchen at the Black Forest Inn in Stanhope, NJ, for a lesson in seasonal baking and take home your yummy creations. Adults are welcome to participate, too.

Becoming Powerful Speakers

Develop your public speaking skills to express your ideas clearly and powerfully in this fun and virtual one-hour group activity led by Powerful Speakers Unlimited. You will learn to develop a stage presence with tips and techniques that will help you speak comfortably with friends and adults and in front of a group.

  • This program helps girls earn the Girl Scout Brownie Making Friends Badge (Steps 4), Girl Scout Junior Social Butterfly Badge (Steps 4), and Girl Scout Cadette Public Speaker Badge (Steps 2 & 3).

Birthplace Bound

Birthplace Bound

Travel to Savannah, Georgia, the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts. Discover what her life was like in the 1880s as we tour historic Savannah and participate in workshops at Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and Girl Scout First Headquarters. Board a boat and search for dolphins and take a ghost tour at night. We'll dine at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House and enjoy ice cream by the river.

  • Two payments of $415.00 per person are required, with the first payment due upon registration. The second payment is due on July 1, 2022. Fee includes travel, hotel, tours, four dinners, and four breakfasts. Hotel is based on four to a room.
  • Participants must attend a preparatory meeting on Sept. 11, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at the Riverdale Service Center.
  • Troop leaders, please have parents register their girl. Due to the payment option, troops cannot register as a unit.
  • Last roster change or withdrawal date is July 1, 2021. Refunds cannot be given after July 1, 2022.

Boo Bash Drive-Through Spooktacular

Bring the whole family to Lake Rickabear Camp for this year’s Drive-Through Boo Bash. Enjoy engaging—not too spooky—live Halloween displays created by Girl Scouts, and vote for your favorites. Girl Scouts will receive a fun patch and all children older than age 3 will receive a goody bag.

Bootiful Buildings

Bring your creativity and crafting skills to Lake Rickabear Camp and help us prepare for this year’s Boo Bash. Boston Experience

Boston Experience

Tour the historic city of Boston, Massachusetts during this get-away weekend with your sister Girl Scouts. Your visit will include a trip to the historic town of Lowell—where young farm girls of Massachusetts fueled the Industrial Revolution in America; a walk in the footsteps of John Hancock and John Adams along the Freedom Trail; and a stop at Bunker Hill Monument where the Boston Massacre occurred. We’ll stroll through Boston Commons and enjoy lunch and shopping at Quincy Market.

  • This program activity will help girls earn the Girl Scout Senior Traveler Badge (Steps 1, 2 & 5).
  • Fee includes transportation via coach bus, hotel accommodations (fee based on 4 per room), breakfast, dinner at Hard Rock Cafe, exclusive fun patch, tour guide, and all admission fees. LINK patch and completed badge can be purchased at the council shops.

Brooklyn Bridge and the Sidewalks of NY

Brooklyn Bridge and the Sidewalks of NY

Be a tourist close to home when you join us for a guided walking tour of the sidewalks of New York. We’ll walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and continue through the streets of lower Manhattan where we will visit African Burial Ground National Monument, Trinity Church cemetery, St. Paul’s Chapel, Federal Hall, the 9/11 Memorial, the New York Stock Exchange, and Battery Park.

  • Fee includes coach bus transportation, entrance to all venues, exclusive fun patch, and professional tour guide. LINK patch can be purchased at the council shops.
  • Bus pick-up locations are tentatively Paramus or Riverdale Service Centers, and depend on where the majority of participants live (TBD).

Cake Decorating I

Be creative with icing as you learn from a professional baker how to decorate a cake that you can take home. You’ll earn Part 1 of your Girl Scout Bake Arts Patch as you master the basic skills for turning something tasty into something beautiful, too.

  • Fee includes program materials, professional instruction, and part 1 of a Bake Arts Multilevel patch. Take-home materials also include a practice board, pastry bag, information sheet, four decorating tips, and a small spatula (retail value of $22). LINK patch can be purchased at the council shops.

Build on the decorating skills you learned in Cake Decorating I, as you work with bakery icing to create ruffled swags and basket weaves on a cake you can take home. You will learn to equally divide a cake to create borders using piping techniques.

Campfire and Night Hike

Experience the changes that occur in the forest as day turns to night during this short, guided evening hike on the trails of the Tenafly Nature Center. We’ll play games as we listen for animals and test our sensory skills along the way. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy songs, stories, and fun-filled activities while we roast marshmallows around a campfire.

  • This program activity will help Girl Scout Cadettes who are working on the Breathe Journey (Steps 1 & 3) to create an Air Log as part of their work toward earning an Aware Award.

Centerpiece Masterpiece

You can design a beautiful floral holiday centerpiece like a professional florist during this virtual instruction by Frelinghuysen Arboretum staff. Learn the basics of floral design and how to create an intricate bow.

Chemistry of Beauty

Chemistry of Beauty

Be a chemist for a day with the help of the staff at Bellus Skincare Lab in Pompton Plains, NJ. You’ll learn about the chemistry behind natural beauty products and how they affect your skin, health, and hygiene. Professional lab technicians will explain the science behind your skin as you take a closer look under a microscope and determine the best cleansing products for you. You’ll even create your own personal cleansing product to take home.

  • This program will help girls earn the Girl Scout Junior Product Designer Badge, Girl Scout Ambassador Research & Development Badge, Girl Scout Cadette Science of Happiness Badge (Step 2), and Girl Scout Senior Science of Style Badge (Steps 1, 3 & 5).

Explore the trails of the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham as we search for fruits and seeds and learn facts about them along the way. After, we’ll make fresh apple cider the old-fashioned way by pressing apples by hand, plus we’ll sample some.

Crack the Case

Be a detective and crack the case with techniques used by forensic scientists in this workshop for Girl Scout Junior and Cadette troops at Liberty Science Center. Learn about fingerprinting, fiber comparison, and analyzing ballistics. Enjoy a show at the largest planetarium in the western hemisphere and visit the general exhibits.

Bring your family for a fun day at Lake Rickabear, a 40-acre, spring-fed lake with a 700-foot sandy beach Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Camp offers fishing, miniature golf, outdoor bowling, volleyball, tennis, basketball, and more. Charcoal grills and picnic tables are available. Identification bands are issued when you check-in. FIRST LEGO League

FIRST LEGO Robotics Team

Build robots and compete with us in FIRST LEGO League, an exciting global robotics program. Under the guidance of a robotics coach and mentors, you’ll be part of a team that will research and solve a real-world problem based on a challenge theme; present your research and solutions; and build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts. GSNNJ sponsors several competition robotics teams that meet at our Riverdale Service Center.

  • This program activity will help girls earn a Girl Scout Robotics Badge.
  • Fee includes robotic equipment, team shirt, pizza dinner every Sunday, team registration, competition, and coaching fees.
  • Each team will meet EVERY Sunday from September through the first week of December at the Riverdale Service Center, from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
  • There will be a one night overnight at Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham, Nov. 6-7, during which teams will design their presentations and troubleshoot their programming and design.

Floral Botanical Water Lab

Be a scientist for a day with the help of Bellus Skincare Labs staff in Pompton Plains, NJ. You’ll work with organic flowers to create your own floral scented water mist in a lab. Learn about the anatomy of flowers and the role of flowers in healing and beauty products, such as essential oils.

The Force of the Fourth

The Force of the Fourth brings good and evil on all planets. Be a warrior of the stars (dress up if you would like) and make your own tool to defend the galaxy. What side will you join? Then enjoy relaxing meditation on the beach and a closing campfire with S'mores at Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon.

During this interactive workshop at the Riverdale Service Center, you’ll hear from Girl Scouts who have traveled and you’ll learn how to plan your own trip. Bring your smart phone, laptop, or tablet with you to assist you with the session.

Girl Power Empowers

Be an advocate for animals and learn to speak up for them with the help of the staff at Lokai Rose, an environmental conservation organization and exotic animal rescue group. Meet some of the animals that live in Ringwood State Park and learn how to respect wildlife when exploring. You’ll discover how to raise awareness about environmental issues and endangered animals, as you prepare a presentation on a conservation topic and share it with the other participants to develop your public speaking skills.

  • This program helps girls earn the Girl Scout Cadette Public Speaker Badge and Girl Scout Cadette Eco Trekker Badge.
  • This is a two-part program and when you register, you are registering for two dates. To earn the badges, girls must attend both sessions.

Girls Go Grand...Canyon

Girls Go Grand...Canyon

Our adventure will have you rafting through the Grand Canyon, observing stars in the desert and taking a Pink Jeep Tour in Sedona! We’ll be guided by a park ranger at the Grand Canyon and hike the red rocks of Sedona from June 28, 2022 through July 3, 2022. (Dates are approximate, and will be finalized by November 2021.)

  • Included: Airfaire, Lodging, Tours, Arizona Transportation, Breakfast and 2 Dinners. Accommodations 4 to a room.
  • COST: $1900 four to a room. $2230 two to a room. Final cost may vary due to airfare fluctuations.

Express yourself through the unique art of glass-fusing at Glassworks Studio in Morristown. Through your artwork creation in this advanced workshop, you’ll learn more complex cutting and layout options for a unique design. Using the complex cutting you will be able to construct a mask of your own design or create a 3D project with different depth and shapes.

You’re invited to tour the beautiful camp facilities at Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham. Come meet our staff, ask questions, and make S’mores. With a large "L"-shaped swimming pool, Low-Ropes Challenge Course, and Zip Line, beautiful equestrian center, archery range, playing field, and adventurous hiking trails, the fun is endless at our camp. Walk through our luxurious cabins and activity shelters, see our large troop house and spacious pavilion, and more. Stop by anytime between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and bring a friend or two.

Lake Rickabear Day Camp Open House

Take a tour of our Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon. Meet our camp staff and enjoy refreshments as you discover what makes our summer camp program so desirable. Our beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake is perfect for pedal boating, row boating, paddle boarding, and swimming, and has a long stretch of sandy beach. You’ll also see our archery range, low-ropes challenge course, mini golf course, zip line, rock wall, equestrian area, gaga ball pit, and hiking trails. Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts are welcome to register for our camps. Bring along a friend or two!

Take your Outdoor, Breathe, or Amaze Journey one step further and earn your Leader In Action Award. Team up with other Girl Scout Cadettes to build your leadership skills and spend the night working together to plan a fun program for Girl Scout Brownies to do on April 24, which you will lead. Using one of your special talents (such as creating and demonstrating a science experiment or craft), teach Girl Scout Brownies something important from their Journey (such as making healthy snacks or getting exercise), and reflect on your experience.

Life’s aMAZE Journey Weekend

During this weekend workshop at Lake Rickabear Camp, you’ll work on your aMAZE Girl Scout Journey to develop skills that will help you find your path and navigate friendships and middle school. We’ll explore ideas for creating peace—for you, your world, and the planet, too. This program is an award helper and does not complete the Journey. The program will complete the Peacemaker Award and the Interact Award, and you’ll leave with a Take Action Plan to follow to complete the Journey.

Build self-confidence, team cooperation, and problem-solving skills, both individually and as a troup, when a trained facilitator guides you through low rope elements and group initiative activities. Your team will work through frustrations and gain confidence as they create a solution for each activity. Each challenge activity will be geared to the participants’ age levels during this 2-hour program. Girls in Grade 4 or older can enjoy a zip line experience.

  • Choose between our two camps for your preferred location: at Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham or Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon.
  • Low Ropes Challenge Course sessions are available from mid-April through mid-November.

Maple Sugaring (Feb. 19)

Experience a unique behind-the-scenes maple sugaring program designed for older Girl Scouts. You’ll work side by side with our maple sugaring staff to tap our maple trees and create a sugar bush at Lake Rickabear Camp. Girl Scouts who have previously attended our Maple Sugaring program are encouraged to attend, but girls new to maple sugaring are also welcome to register.

Explore media and the messengers through hands-on activities, video clips, and the web. You’ll leave with an action plan to finish the Girl Scout Journey.

  • This program activity will help girls earn the Monitor, Influence, and Cultivate Awards from the Girl Scout Cadette MEdia Journey.

You’ll feel like a real farmer when you help with the morning chores on a local farm at Fosterfields in Morristown, NJ. Chores may include feeding and watering the animals, sweeping the barn, herding the sheep, and helping our farmers take the animals out to the pasture.

Mystery at the Museum

Spend a memorable overnight at Liberty Science Center with other GSNNJ Girl Scouts. We’ll have the place all to ourselves to explore and solve a mystery. We’ll work on science activities and participate in an adventure designed just for us as we partner with the team from Liberty Science Center. Learn about the world of forensic science, see a movie in the IMAX dome theatre, and sleep among the exhibits. Plus, we’ll experience the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium—the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere!

  • This overnight is a new mystery for 2022.
  • Fee includes hands-on exhibits, live science demonstrations, evening snack, and a light morning breakfast. LINK patch can be purchased at the council shops.
  • Each Girl Scout will receive a patch entitling her to unlimited free admission to LSC with a paying adult through Sept. 1, 2022.

Off the Grid Warrior

Get outdoors and build your survival skills during this badge-earning, Journey-centered program for both girls and adults! Girls Scouts: you’ll participate in workshops that will help you learn to live outside and “off the grid.” Fire building, knot tying, tent pitching, edible plant eating, and outdoor cooking are all part of this weekend. Troop leaders: you can earn your Troop Camper Certification. Overnight accommodation choices include troop houses, platform tents, and rustic bungalows, or pitch your own tent under the stars at Camp Glen Spey. Boating will be available on the lake and the archery range will be open.

Owl Pellet Exploration

Expand your owl expertise as you learn about the amazing adaptations of New Jersey’s owls in this one-hour virtual workshop by the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center. You’ll hear a presentation from the educators, as well as dissect owl pellets to learn more about their prey. Owl pellets are made of the indigestible parts of what owls eat—bones, fur, claws, and teeth—which they spit up as pellets that can be broken apart and studied.

Be an explorer in search of owls during this guided night hike through the Flat Rock Brook Nature Center forest in Englewood. You’ll learn how to identify owl species by sight and sound before heading out on the trail to search for them.

During this informative program, you will develop your personal relationship “bill of rights,” learn to recognize the signs of an unhealthy relationship, and discover ways to help yourself and friends when they occur. Workshops are grade appropriate and will address media influences, technology, friendships, and dating. Adults will participate in separate workshops addressing teen dating and relationships.

Silver Award Workshop

When Girl Scout Cadettes focus on an issue they care about, learn the facts, and take action to make a difference, they gain the confidence and skills that will catapult them to lifelong success. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Silver Award—the highest honor a Girl Scout Cadette can achieve. For parents and troop leaders who will be supporting girls in earning the Girl Scout Silver Award, this workshop will help you understand the requirements and steps to achieving it. Attendance is optional, but highly recommended.

Skincare Innovation Lab

Discover how a skincare product is made and sold by a company with the help of the staff at Bellus Skincare Lab in Pompton Plains, NJ. You’ll get a peek behind the scenes as you imagine owning your own company and selling your own products. Join us in a boardroom to design your company’s brand elements, including its logo, colors, fonts, and brand voice. Then, visit the lab to use fragrances and ingredients for making a skincare product of your own design.

Stress Less & Feel Good

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when trying to balance school, activities, social media, and relationships. In this workshop, we’ll talk about how stress feels in our body and how we can shift from feeling stressed to feeling good. You’ll learn to stretch and balance with yoga, do some easy breathing techniques, and use your five senses to refocus, release stress, and feel good at Body Positive Works in Saddle River, NJ.

Think Like an Engineer Journey Weekend

Earn your Think Like an Engineer Journey at Camp Glen Spey when you use your problem-solving skills to solve challenges and complete hands-on projects as a team during this one-day event. You’ll use power tools and electrical components to discover different engineering disciplines and accomplish all but the Take Action piece of the Journey.

  • This program activity will help girls complete the Girl Scout Cadette Think Like an Engineer Journey.

Trailblazers Hiking Group

Trailblazers Hiking Group

Outdoor adventure awaits—become an avid hiker as a member of the Trailblazers Hiking Group. Experienced leaders will guide you through a year of scheduled events as you discover hiking, camping, fire building, rock climbing, archery, geocaching, sailing, and more. Participate as your schedule allows. Girls can register on their own, with a parent, or with their troop.

  • A one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $20 per person for the year will give you access to a full calendar of events.
  • Fee includes all hikes and backpacking trips. All other activities require an additional fee.

Be inspired by Impressionist painters to create your own mini floral masterpiece. You’ll learn the history of art, and how the focus changed from portraits and historical themes to plants, flowers, and outdoor scenes during this virtual workshop with the Frelinghuysen Arboretum staff. Learn different painting techniques and how to mix colors using a color wheel.

Wizarding Exams

Spend a weekend at Wizarding School for Girl Scout Cadettes only at our Camp Glen Spey. Enroll and take classes in potions, magical plants, creature care, and more. Students and chaperones will stay overnight in troop houses or our new smaller cabins.
