Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey Announces
Head of DreamLab Operations Prior to Spring Opening

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ), the premier leadership development program for girls, is excited to announce Melissa Sullivan as the new Head of DreamLab Operations prior to the spring 2026 opening of its Girl Scout DreamLab facility at 300 Forest Ave. in Paramus, N.J.

The Girl Scout DreamLab will be an engaging space dedicated to fostering leadership, encouraging curiosity, and embracing innovation, not just for girls, but for the community-at-large. It promises to be a hub for sisterhood and a place where Girl Scouts and others can connect in the community, as well as a place to build confidence and shape passions and dreams.

At the Girl Scout DreamLab, there will be a full range of activities that will appeal to a variety of interests, including scientific experimentation, engineering, podcasting, theatrical production, and creative arts.

Ms. Sullivan will lead the daily operations of the dynamic Girl Scout DreamLab space, building community connections, driving membership growth, and innovating program offerings to ensure an exceptional and engaging visitor experience for Girl Scout members and others.

"I'm excited to welcome Melissa Sullivan to our team as our Girl Scout DreamLab comes to life and begins to transform how we deliver programming and experiences for Girl Scouts, while deepening sisterhood and community connection," said Sandra A. Kenoff, President/CEO of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey.

Girl Scouting has been an integral part of Ms. Sullivan’s personal and professional life, from her beginnings as a Girl Scout Daisy through her work towards becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout. She also spent 10 years as a staff member of Girl Scouts of Greater New York council, where she worked across the program, membership, and volunteer departments.

Ms. Sullivan looks forward to using those years of experience to launch the GSNNJ Girl Scout DreamLab not only as a space for Girl Scouts, but as a hub for sisterhood and community. She envisions the day when it will be buzzing with Girl Scouts using the space to its full potential with activities such as recording in the podcast room, building robots for a competition, trying experiments in the STEM lab area, practicing public speaking in the theater space, or shopping for uniforms and patches in the retail shop.

Ms. Sullivan is also eager to welcome non-Girl Scout community members to the space for group activities, including during school hours, and welcomes all inquiries about possible collaborations. She can be reached at msullivan@gsnnj.org or (973) 248-8200.

“That kind of energy, where every corner of the Girl Scout DreamLab is meeting different needs at the same time, is what excites me most,” said Ms. Sullivan. “It represents a space that could truly serve our community and reflects the full breadth of what the Girl Scout experience can be,” she added.

DreamLab Location Announcement toggle arrow

Jan. 29, 2025

Dear Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey...

We’re excited to announce that our Service Center at 300 Forest Ave. in Paramus will be transformed into a Girl Scout DreamLab, with an estimated grand opening in spring of 2026. This dynamic space will house the DreamLab, additional flexible and versatile experience space, a retail shop, and offices.

Since 2023, as part of the property master plan, we’ve made significant investments in our two camp properties, Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham and Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon. And, while additional enhancements are being made at the camps this year, our efforts are now focused on building a Girl Scout DreamLab in the Bergen County location that has been home to Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey for nearly 50 years.

What is a DreamLab?

Our vision is that the Girl Scout DreamLab will be a hub for our Girl Scouts and the larger community, and will be a modern, engaging space dedicated to fostering leadership, encouraging curiosity, and embracing innovation.

The Paramus location is ideal for many reasons as it's within easy reach of many of our current members and is our longstanding location where we can invite the community and future Girl Scouts to experience what Girl Scouting is really all about—trying new things, giving back, building friendships, and becoming leaders.

At our DreamLab, we will offer a full range of activities that will appeal to a variety of interests and foster engagement including scientific experimentation, engineering, podcasting, video production, theatrical production, and creative arts.

Our Board Chair Shanna Jafri and the GSNNJ Board of Directors are fully committed to ensuring that we have the resources to bring this vision to life knowing the incredible impact it will have on shaping the future of our girls and their communities.

Our council is committed to creating a future where every girl can benefit from the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. To that end, we offer financial assistance for Girl Scout membership fees, uniform supplies, program activities, and summer camp.

Financial assistance is made possible in part by the generous support of our donors. Donate now to help more girls experience Girl Scouting: www.gsnnj.or/donate

PARAMUS, NEW JERSEY (Jan. 28, 2025)—Today, Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) announced that its Service Center at 300 Forest Ave. in Paramus, New Jersey, will be transformed into a Girl Scout DreamLab, with an estimated grand opening in spring of 2026. This dynamic space will house the DreamLab, additional flexible and versatile experience space, a retail shop, and offices, and will shape the future of Girl Scouting in northern New Jersey.

Shaping the Future of Girl Scouting

As part of a property master plan launched in 2023, the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey stated that it would reimagine its properties and further invest in resources to better help girls in northern New Jersey benefit from the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Since 2023, significant investments have been made in GSNNJ’s two camp properties, Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham and Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon, including the addition of 8 pickleball courts, 2 basketball courts, four-square and hopscotch courts, and a junior scooter track, as well as updates to a horse corral, pool, and archery range. While additional enhancements are being made at the camps this year, efforts are now focused on building a Girl Scout DreamLab in the Bergen County location that has been home to Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey for nearly 50 years.

“We’re committed to creating a future where every Girl Scout has access to unparalleled resources, unforgettable experiences, and boundless opportunities to become the leaders of tomorrow,” says GSNNJ President/CEO Sandra A. Kenoff. “We’re excited to construct a modern, engaging space dedicated to fostering leadership, encouraging curiosity, and embracing innovation. Our vision is that the Girl Scout DreamLab will be a hub for our Girl Scouts and the larger community. It will be a space designed to meet our mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place, through immersive experiences uniquely tailored to both our current and future members, and the broader community,” adds Kenoff.

“The Paramus location is ideal for many reasons as it's within easy reach of many of our current members and is our longstanding location where we can invite the community and future Girl Scouts to experience what Girl Scouting is really all about—trying new things, giving back, building friendships, and becoming leaders,” she notes. “We are committed to providing the resources that allow our members and guests to participate in a full range of activities that drive interest and engagement including scientific experimentation, engineering, podcasting, video production, theatrical production, and creative arts, to name a few.”

The Girl Scout DreamLab Concept

The DreamLab concept builds upon the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) iconic national properties model which includes camps, offices, and programmatic facilities such as STEM centers. Through independent research groups working closely with local councils, Girl Scouts, and communities, GSUSA developed the innovative Girl Scout DreamLab concept. Eight are currently open across the country and there are plans for additional DreamLabs to be open within the next year.  This is a new model for Girl Scout councils to consider as they evaluate their own property plans, membership needs, and their place within their broader communities.

Shanna Jafri, GSNNJ Board Chair, stated, “The Board of Directors is fully committed to ensuring that we have the resources to bring this vision to life knowing the incredible impact it will have on shaping the future of our girls and their communities.  I am thrilled about GSNNJ’s initiative to build a space that will inspire and empower our 19,000 current and future Girl Scouts.”
