FIRST LEGO League is an exciting global robotics program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science, and technology. GSNNJ sponsors several competition teams that meet regularly at our Riverdale Service Center. Each year FLL teams embark on an adventurous challenge based on real world problems. Guided by team coaches and mentors, the teams research and solve a real-world problem based on a challenge theme, present their research, solution, and build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts.
Each team will meet at the Riverdale Service Center every Sunday
from Sept. 10, 2023 through the end of November. Meetings are from
3:00-7:00 p.m. Adult supervision is provided (girls can be dropped off
at the Service Center for this program). Fee includes robotic
equipment, team shirt, pizza dinner weekly, FLL fees and coaches. Girl
Scouts will earn the Cadette Robotics Badge (steps 1, 2 &
3).
To join our FIRST LEGO League teams, contact GSNNJ's Chief Program Officer Charisse Taylor at ctaylor@gsnnj.org or call (973) 248-8200.
Learn to think like an engineer as you work with a team to design,
build, and code a competitive robot from a reusable platform
(powered by Android technology) and using a variety of levels of
Java-based programming.
Our team, Steel Magnolias FTC 17009, is starting its fifth year and
has garnered $64,000 in college scholarships for previous
members. Steel Magnolias meets every Saturday evening at the Riverdale
Community Center, September through March. Competitions occur on
weekends and may include Sundays. Some additional sessions will be
added as competitions near; however, 100% attendance
is NOT required.
We are seeking Girl Scouts interested in
STEM-related positions that concentrate on designing, building, and
programming. Experience is not necessary. There are more than 200
FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics teams in New Jersey and Steel Magnolias
is a top contender.
Applications for our FIRST TECH Challenge team are no longer being accepted for the 2023-2024 year. Girl Scouts can apply during June/July.
