FIRST Tech Challenge Team | Steel Magnolias FTC 17009
Apply today to become a member of our FIRST TECH Challenge Team, Steel Magnolias 17009, for the 2024-25 Season. Steel Magnolias is an all-girl FIRST TECH Challenge robotics competition team sponsored and mentored by Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey and professional coaches. Many of our team members have gone on to attend some of the top colleges within their desired majors, and we have an impressive network of alumnae. As a team, we work together to foster a healthy competitive, supportive, and inclusive environment. The FTC season begins in early September and ends in early April. Steel Magnolias meets every Saturday evening at the Riverdale Community Center, September through March. Competitions occur on weekends and may include Sundays. Some additional sessions will be added as competitions near; however, 100% attendance is NOT required.
We are looking for a few new members to add to our team, are currently accepting applications for the 2024-2025 season, and will notify those candidates we’d like to interview as possible teammates. Please submit your application no later than Aug. 1, 2024.
FIRST LEGO League
FIRST LEGO League is an exciting global robotics program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science, and technology. GSNNJ sponsors several competition teams that meet regularly at our Riverdale Service Center. Each year FLL teams embark on an adventurous challenge based on real world problems. Guided by team coaches and mentors, the teams research and solve a real-world problem based on a challenge theme, present their research, solution, and build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts.
Each team will meet at the Riverdale Service Center every Sunday
from Sept. 10, 2023 through the end of November. Meetings are from
3:00-7:00 p.m. Adult supervision is provided (girls can be dropped off
at the Service Center for this program). Fee includes robotic
equipment, team shirt, pizza dinner weekly, FLL fees and coaches. Girl
Scouts will earn the Cadette Robotics Badge (steps 1, 2 &
3).
