FIRST LEGO League is an exciting global robotics program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science, and technology. GSNNJ sponsors several competition teams that meet regularly at our Riverdale Service Center. Each year FLL teams embark on an adventurous challenge based on real world problems. Guided by team coaches and mentors, the teams research and solve a real-world problem based on a challenge theme, present their research, solution, and build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts.
Each team currently meets at the Riverdale Service Center every Sunday from September through November. Meetings are from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Adult supervision is provided (girls can be dropped off at the Service Center for this program). Fee includes robotic equipment, team shirt, pizza dinner weekly, FLL fees and coaches. Girl Scouts will earn the Cadette Robotics Badge (steps 1, 2 & 3).

Our FIRST TECH Challenge Team, Steel Magnolias 17009, is an all-girl FIRST TECH Challenge robotics competition team sponsored and mentored by Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey and professional coaches. Many of our team members have gone on to attend some of the top colleges within their desired majors, and we have an impressive network of alumnae. As a team, we work together to foster a healthy competitive, supportive, and inclusive environment.
The FTC season begins in early September and ends in early
April. Steel Magnolias currently meets every Saturday evening at the
Riverdale Community Center, September through March. Competitions
occur on weekends and may include Sundays. Some additional sessions
will be added as competitions near; however, 100% attendance
is NOT required.
