Be a part of our FIRST LEGO League competition team and participate in an exciting global robotics program filled with discovery, science, and technology. We are looking for Girl Scouts to join our robotics competition teams (of 6-10 girls each). Teams meet at the Riverdale Service Center every Sunday (3:00-7:00 PM) during competition season (August through December).
Guided by team coaches and mentors, you and your FIRST LEGO League team will embark on an adventurous challenge focused on solving a real-world problem. Your team will complete an engineering design project, build and code a LEGO robot to complete various missions, and present your research and solution to a panel of judges. Through this program, you’ll earn your Girl Scout Cadette Programming Robots, Designing Robots, and Showcasing Robots badges.
NOTE: Registering to become a FIRST LEGO Team member implies that you are registering for the entire season. The success of this program is dependent on all girls actively participating, so it is important that you can commit for the entire season (missing a meeting or two is allowed). If you have a prior commitment, such as sports, that will cause you to miss all or part of several practices, but you still want to participate, contact the Program Department before signing up.
Important dates:
Fee includes robotic equipment, team merchandise, pizza dinner weekly, FIRST LEGO League fees, coaches, Team Overnight at Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham, and competitions. Adult supervision is provided (Girl Scouts can be dropped off at the Riverdale Service Center for this program).

Be a part of our FIRST Tech Challenge competition team. Learn to think like an engineer as you work with a team to design, build, and code a competitive robot using Java for Android technology. Our FIRST Tech Challenge team, Steel Magnolias FTC 17009, meets every Friday (6:00-9:00 PM) and Saturday (3:00-9:00 PM) at the Riverdale Community Center during the season (September through March), with outreach events throughout the year.
Competitions occur on weekends and may include Sundays. Some additional sessions will be added as competitions near; however, 100% attendance is NOT required.
We are seeking Girl Scouts interested in STEM-related positions that concentrate on designing, building, and programming. Experience is not necessary. There are more than 200 FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics teams in New Jersey and Steel Magnolias 17009 is a top contender.
