Program on the Go
For troops and Service Units unable to participate in activities due to scheduling conflicts, our Program on the Go service is available. GSNNJ will bring some of our most popular program activities to your location. Some programs, like Continental Cooking, are featured at specialty program destinations.
Program on the Go explores Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, and STEM, and includes fun and educational activities such as cake decorating, a group cooking class, sewing, constellation exploration, and more.
To request one of our Program on the Go activities listed below, complete a Program on the Go Interest Form at least three weeks prior to your desired activity date.
Life Skills 
Cake Décor 1: Fundamentals
Get creative with icing as you learn the basics skills of cake decorating from a professional baker. Adults can register and participate too, but not required. Please note: food items may contain or be cross contaminated with know food allergens.
- Level: Girl Scout Brownies-Ambassadors
- Program Length: 1.5 hours
- Total Length: 2.5 hours (includes set-up and clean-up, 30 minutes each)
- Minimum: 10 girls & adults
- Maximum: 30 girls & adults
- Price: $43 per person
- Each participant receives instruction and decorates a 5" vanilla cake to take home. A take home kit is included, which consists of a decorating bag, four tips, a coupler, a practice board, information sheet, and spatula.
Cake Decorating II: Borders and Basket Weaving
Build on the skills you learned in Cake Décor 1, as you work with bakery icing to create ruffled swags, basket weaves, and piping techniques on a cake that you will take home. Adults can register and participate too, but not required. Please note: food items may contain or be cross contaminated with known food allergens.

Continental Cooking
Put on your chef’s hat and apron and join us in a professional restaurant kitchen at the Black Forest Inn in Stanhope, NJ. Here you will learn basic cooking skills and create a special meal to share with the guidance of a Master Chef who made it to the final round of the cooking show Chopped! Adults may participate and enjoy the family-style meal at the end of the session too! All registrants will need a signed parental/custodial waiver. This program is offered on Monday evenings from October 2024 through May 2025.

Yoga Mini Retreat
Discover how to better focus on what your body can do, than on how it looks. During this program, you'll explore yoga, meditation, and breathing techniques that will help you ignore the negative body image messaging in advertising, movies, television, and social media.
- Level: Girl Scout Daisies-Ambassadors
- Program Length: 1 hour
- Minimum: 10 girls
- Maximum: 30 girls
- Price: $25 per Girl Scout/$5 per adult
- Location: Body Positive Works Studio, 96 East Allendale Road, Saddle River, NJ or participants' meeting space (Bergen County only) at an additional fee.
- Participants should bring their own yoga mats.
Self-Defense
Be strong and confident! Girl Scouts of all levels can participate in this martial arts workshop where we will focus on personal safety training by a 4th degree black belt instructor who has been teaching self-defense for over 30 years. The class includes basic mental, verbal, and physical self-defense techniques that are easy to use and will keep us safe from danger.

Sewing
Hand Stitching
Get ready to learn the basics of sewing! Design and sew your very own stuffed animal by hand and learn how to thread a needle, sew two pieces of fabric together, along with buttons and patches for the eyes and the face, stuff and complete your creation. You will learn different types of hand stitches such as the running stitch, back stitch, whipstitch and the blanket stitch. Our professional seamstress will come to your meeting site and show your troop a new skill. Girl Scouts will work towards earning the following badges - Girl Scout Brownie: Craft and Tinker, Junior: Art and Design, Senior: Textile Artist. Level: Girl Scout Brownies - Ambassadors

Sewing I
Learn to use a computerized sewing machine, pin fabric, and learn the language of sewing to make your very own tote bag! You'll discover how sewing incorporates technology, art, and math. We also offer Advanced Sewing 2 and Sewing 3 by request. Adults may register and participate too. This is a Program on the Go which can be offered at your regular meeting site or at one of our service centers, by availability. Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors work towards their Art & Design Badges, Seniors work towards their Science of Style and Textile Artist badges.

S.T.A.R.S.
Discover the Supportive Techniques and Resource Services (S.T.A.R.S) needed to develop healthy friendships and romantic relationships for middle school and high school levels during our S.TA.R.S. seminars. Learn how to build healthy relationships through interactive activities and how to identify the incremental nature of abuse and spot abusive behaviors. GSNNJ partners with JBWS to bring this Program on the Go to your troop. Accompanying adults can participate in a separate discussion and workshop designed to provide them with tools to assist a teen who may be in a potentially abusive relationship. Workshops are age appropriate and will focus on developing healthy relationships. Presentations can be held through Zoom or at your troop meeting location. Girl Scouts will work on earning & receive the following badges: Cadettes – Science of Happiness, Senior – Women’s Health & Senior Journey: Mission: Sisterhood! Ambassador Journey: Your Voice, Your World.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)
Sensational Stars
Get a closer look at the stars in our traveling Star Lab planetarium that brings the stars down to Earth! Work on your space science badge and spend time studying the constellations and other wonders of the night sky. Girl Scout Daisies earn the Daisy Space Science Explorer Badge. Girl Scout Brownies work toward the Space Science Adventurer Badge (Steps 1, 2, 3, 4). Juniors work towards the Space Science Investigator Badge (Steps 1,2, and 4).

Note: The Star Lab can hold up to 25 people. Star Lab presentations are appropriate for all ages; however, we will group presentations by age level. A space of at least 25 feet by 25 feet with at least 12-foot-high ceilings is needed. The Star Lab cannot be set up outside. A single AC electrical outlet must be available. We will need adults to be able to assist with badge-earning activities and to come into the Star Lab, especially for the Daisy and Brownie levels – it’s dark inside.
