'FIRST LEGO League is an exciting global robotics program that will ignite your enthusiasm for discovery, science, and technology. GSNNJ sponsors several competition teams, of 6-10 girls each. The teams meets every Sundays from 3-7pm at our Riverdale Service Center from August through early December. Guided by team coaches and mentors, you and your FIRST LEGO League team will embark on an adventurous challenge focused on solving a real-world problem. Your team will complete an engineering design project, build and code a LEGO robot to complete various missions, and present your research and solution to a panel of judges. NOTE: Registering for this event implies that you are registering for the entire season. The success of this program is dependent on all girls actively participating so it is important that you can commit for the entire season (missing a week or two is okay). If you have a prior commitment, such as sports, that would cause you to miss all or part of several practices but you still want to participate, please check in with the GSNNJ Program Department (program@gsnnj.org) before signing up.
Important dates to be aware of:
Jockey hollow sleep over: October 17th - October 18th
Regional Competition: November 21st
State competition*: December 5th-6th
*state competition participation is dependent on results from regional competition.
You'll earn your Girl Scout Cadette Programming Robots, Designing Robots, and Showcasing Robots badges. Fee includes robotic equipment, team merchandise, pizza dinner weekly, FLL fees, coaches, a team sleepover at Jockey Hollow Camp, and competition. Adult supervision is provided (Girl Scouts can be dropped off at the Service Center for this program).
