Girl Scout Week is a time when we shout our Girl Scout spirit from the rooftops and honor the Girl Scout Movement. The week includes Girl Scouts’ Birthday on March 12, which commemorates the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization's first 18 members in Savannah, Georgia.
Let's celebrate Girl Scout Week and the 112th Birthday of the Girl Scout Movement. For 112 years, Girl Scouts have found a way to dream big and do good. You create the world you want to live in and strive to make it better every single day. You explore your strengths, take on new challenges, and can always be yourself.
Supported by adult volunteers and mentors right here in our community, as well as millions of alums around the globe, Girl Scouts lead the way as you discover who you are and how you can make the future a brighter place.
Here are some suggested activities that will help you celebrate every day this week.
Saturday, March 9: On Celebration Saturday, we’ll be splish-splashing at DreamWorks Water Park in American Dream mall as we kick-off Girl Scout Week.
Sunday, March 10: It’s Girl Scout Sunday. Research at least one religion that is different from your own and share what you learn with friends and family. Think about how the Girl Scout Promise and Law are similar to the lessons you’ve learned in your faith community. Work with your family and faith leaders to earn the My Promise, My Faith Award pin to celebrate the connection between the Girl Scout Promise and Law and your faith.
Monday, March 11: On Affirmation Monday, create Kindness Rocks to spread positive affirmations. You can paint kind, positive messages on rocks, and once they are dry, give some to your family members and place some out in your community.
Tuesday, March 12: Happy 112th Birthday, Girl Scouts! Celebrate Girl Scouts’ Birthday by sharing your collection of SWAPS and participating in some Girl Scouts trivia.
Wednesday, March 13: On Wear it Wednesday, put on your Girl Scout uniform and record yourself completing any of these five spirit challenge activities. Share your spirit on social media and tag us at Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey.
Thursday, March 14: On Thankful Thursday, share what being a Girl Scout means to you. Tell your family and friends about the friendships, skills, experiences, and other benefits you’ve gained by being a Girl Scout.
Friday, March 15: It’s Flash Forward Friday and we’re thinking about the future (as well as honoring Girl Scout Jummah and Girl Scout Sabbath/Shabbat*). Get outdoors and appreciate nature as you think about protecting the future of our planet. Learn the Leave No Trace principles and commit to practicing them.
Saturday, March 16: On Service Saturday, make Thinking of You or Get Well Soon cards and spread joy in your community. You can deliver cards to seniors in nursing homes or assisted living centers or to children in long-term care at hospitals.
