Voter Girl-Girl Scout Cadettes (Grades 6, 7, & 8)
Join us at Passaic County Community College in Paterson for Voter Girl! At this 3-hour workshop for Brownies through Ambassadors, along with representatives from the League of Women Voters, we will focus on civic engagement and the ins & outs of voting. Each level will work on age-appropriate badges, including Celebrating Community for Brownies, Inside Government for Juniors, Finding Common Ground for Cadettes, Behind the Ballot for Seniors, and Public Policy for Ambassadors. We will divide into groups by level and discuss topics such as the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, and the avenues we can use to contact our local and state government representatives to help change the world.
Also, Shavonda E. Sumter, President & CEO, Children's Aid and Family Services, Danielle Ireland-Imhoff, Passaic County Clerk, and Holly T. Schepisi, New Jersey State Senator will speak, creating a wonderful opportunity for girls of all ages to see women leaders make democracy work. Shona Mack-Pollock, Passaic County Superintendent of Elections, will provide voting machines for our mock elections. The event culminates with a guided walk from PCCC to City Hall. When the program ends at 1:00 pm, all Girl Scouts will have an additional opportunity to join us for a private tour of City Hall, a historic landmark building, where we will see the mayor's office and the City Council meeting space.
When registering, please choose the appropriate Girl Scout level session. Bagels, juice, and coffee will be served. Financial assistance available upon request. Carpooling is encouraged. Parking is in a garage adjacent to the college.
