Lake Rickabear Day Camp

   

At Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon, New Jersey, our 332 acres include a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating. A long stretch of soft, sandy beach lines our swimming area. Our camp also has an archery range, low ropes challenge course, zip line, mini golf course, duck pin bowling alley, equestrian center, rock wall, gaga pit, and volleyball court.  

Lake Rickabear's camping facilities include all-season lodges, yurts, platform tents, and pitch-your-own-tent campsites. A spacious pavilion, campfire amphitheater, and lakeside picnic grove provide lots of opportunity for outdoor fun.

Session 1

Gr 1-12

Lake Rickabear is the place to be for an awesome week of outdoor adventure! Cool off in the lake each day (weather permitting) during a swim lesson and free swim. You’ll work on Girl Scout badges, create masterpieces at arts and crafts, explore our wooded property with the camp naturalist, and aim for a bullseye at nerf archery. Our Low Ropes Challenge Course is the perfect place to make new friends, strengthen your self-esteem, and practice teamwork. If you are in Grade 2 or higher, you can try your hand at archery. If you’re in Grade 4 or higher, you can take a ride on the zip line. Other popular activities that you might participate in include singing camp songs, playing GaGa ball (a form of dodgeball), building sandcastles, making S’mores, and more! Weekly themes, which are announced the first day of each week, make each session unique. If you are in Grade 8-12, you’ll spend this session in your TEENZ unit. You will spend 1.5 hours at the horse corral each day (weather permitting, Tuesday through Friday), including a daily 15-minute riding lesson. You'll learn about grooming, leading, and basic pony care through hands-on rotational stations. During the rest of the week, enjoy daily free swim and swim lessons, while earning your Girl Scout Brownie Making Friends Badge. Lake Rickabear Fun in the Sun TEENZ-SPYSCAPE

Gr 8-12

Fee: $500

As a Fun in the Sun TEENZ camper, you’ll enjoy all that our Fun in the Sun session has to offer, plus you’ll go on a field trip to SPYSCAPE in New York City. Learn about real life spies, hackers, and double agents, as you determine your own spy profile by completing authentic challenges developed by real intelligence operatives. Unwind and debrief during lunch at Ellen’s Stardust, a 50s-themed diner with singing servers. After an exciting day in the city, you’ll return to camp for an included overnight stay with your friends. During this session you can earn your Girl Scout Senior Truth Seeker Badge, as well as participate in swimming, archery, zip line, arts and crafts, and more.

Counselor in Training II

(2-week session)

Gr 10-11

(pre-requisite: completion of CIT during 2021)

Fee: $525

If you’ve already completed the Counselor in Training program, you can continue to build camp counselor skills during this two-week session. During the first week, learn what goes on behind the scenes to enable a camp to run safely and efficiently. In the second week, you’ll use your newly acquired skills working with units under the guidance of camp counselors. Upon successful completion of this program, you will earn your CIT II pin and have the option to volunteer for one or more weeks during the remainder of camp. Plus, you'll receive an exclusive CIT II  shirt to tie dye.

If you're up for an extra adventure, you can pre-register for an optional overnight at camp on Wednesday night of Session 2. 

Session 3 (July 18-22)

Gr 8-12

Fee: $440

As a Fun in the Sun TEENZ camper, you’ll enjoy all that our Fun in the Sun session has to offer plus you’ll go on a field trip to Turtleback Zoo and Treetop Adventure Course. Challenge yourself as you work through 14 unique obstacles 10 feet off the ground before flying down a zip line 40 feet in the air. During this session you can also earn your Girl Scout Senior Novelist Badge, as well as participate in swimming, archery, zip line, arts and crafts, and more.

Counselor in

Training

(2-week session)

Gr 9-10

(must be 14 yrs. old  as of 7/5/22)

Fee: $525

Get ready to begin your journey toward being a camp counselor! Girls entering Grades 9 and 10 (and who are age 14 as of 7/5/22) can register for this two-week leadership training program. During the first week, you’ll develop the skills needed to mentor younger girls and understand their needs in a camp setting. In the second week, you’ll use your newly acquired skills working with units under the guidance of camp counselors. Upon successful completion of this program, you’ll earn your CIT pin and have the option to volunteer for one or more weeks during the remainder of the camp season. Plus, you’ll receive an exclusive CIT shirt to tie dye.  

If you're up for an extra adventure, you can pre-register for an optional overnight at camp on Wednesday night of session 4.

During this special camp session for Girl Scout Juniors, you will work towards completing your Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey. Learn how to make observations and collect data like a scientist in order to help people, animals, and world. Plus, enjoy daily swimming lessons and free swim, as well as archery, challenge course, and nature.

Cadette Outdoor Journey

Gr 6-8

Fee: $420

During this special camp session for Girl Scout Cadettes, you will work towards completing your Outdoor Journey, earning your Girl Scout Cadette Night Owl, Trailblazing, and Primitive Camper badges along the way. As part of the Journey requirements, you will sleep outdoors in a tent on a special Cadettes-only overnight on Wednesday night, included in the fee. Get inspired for completing your Take Action project on your own. Plus, enjoy daily swimming lessons and free swim, as well as archery, challenge course, and nature this week. 

Lake Rickabear Fun in the Sun TEENZ – Senior Outdoor Journey

Gr 9-10

Fee: $495

During this special Fun in the Sun TEENZ camp session just for Girl Scout Seniors, you will work towards completing your Outdoor Journey, earning your Adventurer, First Aid, and Adventure Camper badges along the way. Enjoy a rafting trip down the Delaware River and an overnight at camp just for TEENZ. During the rest of your week, enjoy swimming, archery, zip lining, arts and crafts, and sling shot.

Be inspired by the work of engineers who built the Brooklyn Bridge and some of America's most famous bridges when we visit the Roebling Museum in Roebling, NJ. During the rest of your week, enjoy daily swimming lessons and free swim, and visit some of these camp specialty areas (archery, zip line, arts and crafts, nature, and sling shot).

Senior Think Like an Engineer Journey

Gr 9-10

During this special Fun in the Sun TEENZ camp session just for Girl Scout Seniors, you will work towards completing your Think Like an Engineer Journey. Be inspired by the work of engineers who built the Brooklyn Bridge and some of America's most famous bridges when we visit the Roebling Museum in Roebling, NJ.
